About Us

What is an “Ampersand”?

That’s what they always ask.

Ampersand is two spectacular lead vocalists (Katie Brown & Isi Semmler) backed by a tight, innovative trio of keys, bass & drums (Jarrod Tutbury, Jed Green & Orlando Hamilton-Craig)… & also the “&” symbol.

After almost 4 years of gigs, Noosa & the Sunshine Coast’s local funk family has spread their infectious brand of effortlessly improvised pop/funk fusion across the globe with their recent streaming wins.

Built from scratch with nothing but the team’s varied skill sets & their unshakeable support of each other through thick & thin, this band’s spark has come from only ever having the humble goal of learning from their journey. Driven by innovation and unbridled creativity, they make their own opportunities & are always looking for new and exciting experiences.

Ampersand’s polished, engaging sound & infectious youthful energy allows them to adapt to any stage or venue & their original music has secured them residencies, festivals, support slots & headline gigs across Queensland.

"Originality", Ampersand’s debut single, has reached almost 90,000 streams in over 100 countries & repeated airplay on dozens of radio programs nationally. “Entry Level”, the band’s debut EP, has since accumulated 130,000+ streams. Ampersand recorded these tracks at Yama Nui Studios thanks to the Federal Government’s Regional Arts Fund’s (RAF) Quick Response Grant administered by Flying Arts Alliance & a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Grant from Noosa Council.

The crew has performed at Caloundra Music Festival 2023, Noosa Alive (2022 & 2023 supporting Vika & Linda & Emma Pask), Noosa Social (holding bi-monthly residency), Solbar (Headline/Support), Imperial Hotel Eumundi (Supporting Skunkhour), Rics Bar (Headline), It’s Still A Secret (Headline), The Cave Inn, Norton Music Factory, The Station SC (Headline/Support), Noosa Triathlon, Offbeat Music Festival, Maleny Music Festival, UniSC Variety Festival, Peregian Beach Hotel, Peregian Beach & Coolum Carols & many more.

What We Do

In 3 years, Ampersand has amassed extensive experience from performing at almost every venue & event in the greater Sunshine Coast region. Equally comfortable performing to crowds of thousands at festivals or dozens at intimate venues, the team are always seeking new knowledge.
